Careers Information, Advice & Guidance

In the current economic climate it is important that your child is given the best possible chance to find information on all the education and training post-16. Here at St Ambrose College we have a dedicated Careers Adviser, Mrs Woods, to give our students Careers Guidance from Years 8-13 through one to one interviews and drop-in sessions. Mrs Woods is in school on Mondays and Tuesdays and is based in the interview room next to reception.

Careers Resources

We have a careers section in the school library with a range of careers information and college/university prospectuses which our students can access during school library time.

St Ambrose College has invested in two high quality licenced careers software to help students and parents/careers access up to date and reliable careers information and advice.

Kudos is online careers questionnaire designed for students aged 13-19,and takes students on a journey of discovery where they explore their potential through a personalised experience based on their interests and aspirations. Students will discover new ideas, understand which careers best suit them and uncover how what they are learning in school links to future opportunities and their career destination.

The link for Kudos is on the left and the licence code is timestep68. Students will need to enter the licence code first before creating their own username and password.

eCLIPS is an easy-to-use information system that can be accessed wherever you can get online. It includes a wide range of leaflets on topics relating to career choice, education, training and employment as well as information on lifestyle topics such as relationships and health. It also has a function called ‘Careers Wizard’ which matches your skills, subject preferences and interests to suitable careers.

Eclips-online can be accessed using the link on the left and the Log in code is WA15 0HE and can be found on the top right hand side of the page.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via at school on Monday/Tuesday - Mrs S Woods.

Careers Evening 2018

The college hosted its 2nd annual Careers Convention on Tuesday. The evening was a great success and our warmest thanks go out to all the contributors, parents, students, and staff who attended. The convention welcomed an array of speakers from many different careers, sectors, and industries ranging from nuclear engineering, accountancy, and law, to psychiatry, energy, and teaching. The boys seemed to particularly enjoy the Easter Egg Quiz by Willmott Dixon Construction, and one student won himself a valuable work experience placement with dynamic PR company, Firework PR.

A special mention must go out to Troy Wood, one of our 6th form students and designer of Tim Peake’s spacesuit badge. Troy stepped in at the last minute to deliver a talk on his experiences of work, CV building, and saying ‘Yes’ to all opportunities that come his way. One parent described Troy’s presentation as ‘the best they had seen that evening’.

We are continually looking to develop and add to our programme of careers related events, and over the next few months will be welcoming a diverse range of speakers to present during one of our new Career’s Cafés. As we all know, technology is firmly rooted in all we do in our everyday lives and career opportunities in these sectors are growing exponentially. With this in mind, we will be hosting a ‘Tech Con’ careers event in the summer, allowing the students and their families the opportunity to find out about the many exciting careers emerging in our technological 21st century. Further details to follow.
