A Level Results 2024

There was much to celebrate at St Ambrose today as Year 13 students received their A-level results.

Principal Dermot Rainey commented, “It has been a really positive morning seeing so many smiles and elated students. We are so pleased with their achievements: the result of students’ own hard work and determination, as well as the dedication and commitment of our teaching staff.”

40% of the total grades achieved were A*/ A, up an impressive 10% on 2023, which compares favourably to a national increase of 1.2%.  Four high-flying students achieved an impressive A* in all A-level subjects: George Donne, Joseph Daly, Conor Halpenny and Ben Hartigan.

Conor, George and Ben will be heading off to Oxford University to study history, chemistry and biology respectively while Joseph is to take up a place at the University of Sheffield to study engineering.

In total, a fantastic 28 students achieved A*/ A across all their A-level subjects, which has secured them places at top universities around the country, including Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Queen’s University, Belfast.

Durham University appears to be a popular choice this year with 8 students taking up the offer of a place to read a wide range of subjects including economics, chemistry, English Literature and theology.

It has been a particularly successful year for aspiring medics with 5 students achieving a place to study medicine, including Kevin Akussah and Gabriel Kennedy who are among those heading off to Imperial College, University of London, as well as Chiagoziem Nneke, Joel Scaria and Raymond Sumit.  Nathan Salmo and Mevindu Hewivatharana secured places to study dentistry and dental surgery respectively.

There was a notable increase of about 8% in the proportion of grades at A*/B taking the total to comfortably above 70%.  This has enabled the vast majority to take up their first choice offer of a place at university, 65% of which are Russell Group universities.

Other students are travelling as far afield as Canada and Bulgaria to study at university.

Mr Rainey added, “We wish those going to university every success with their new courses, but know that all our students, regardless of their next steps will continue to carry the Ambrosian values with them.  Compassionate and empowered young men who will make a positive impact in the world: we are proud of each and every one of them.”
