GCSE Results 2024

There were celebrations all round this morning as staff and students welcomed another fantastic set of GCSE results this year.

St Ambrose continues to go from strength to strength, with a record-breaking A8 points score of 73.53, up from 72.84 last year. This is the sixth consecutive year that the A8 score has increased, which bucks the national trend for results.

Principal Dermot Rainey, said, “The students and staff are rightly proud of these exceptional results. But behind the data and figures are incredible, resilient young men who never cease to amaze us with what they are capable of both inside and outside of the classroom.”

There were many notable individual performances from ‘high-flying’ students, including Elie Bitar, Leo Joseph, Chigozie Mamah, James O’Brien, Luca Patiniott and Alan Steevi who all achieved the maximum 90 A8 points: an incredible achievement.

One third of students attained 80 A8 points or above, meaning that they achieved an average of a grade 8 (an A* in “old money”) across their best 8 subjects.

In total, almost 70% of all grades achieved were at 7 or above, almost 10% above the national grammar school average, and well over 40% of grades at 8 or 9.

With two-thirds of students securing 70 A8 points or above, record numbers have obtained a place in the school’s Sixth Form for September.

Mr Rainey added, “we look forward to welcoming so many of our Year 11 students as they begin their next chapter in our Sixth Form and feel privileged to be entrusted with their care and development.  We wish all of our students the very best for the future in whatever path they choose to take.”
